ANDY PALMER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Andy Palmer’s scholarship has been established to recognize the personal characteristics of kindness, loyalty, integrity, and humility. Andy’s life was full of friends who treasure the special way he touched their hearts and their lives and his life commemorated by this scholarship. The award will be made to a graduate who has consistently exemplified the personal characteristics as practiced by Andy during his life and his efforts at encouraging a culture of kindness.
DESCRIPTION
One award or more may be made annually to a graduating senior of Port Townsend High School. Another award will be made by the Port Angeles High School following similar criteria.
AMOUNT
The amount of the award(s) will be set annually by the foundation based on the investment returns from the established Andy Palmer Endowment Fund.
SELECTION
The recipient will be selected through a letter of nomination process. The letters should not only specify the characteristics that make the candidate deserving of the award but also cite specific examples of how the student has consistently demonstrated an effort to create and support a culture of kindness, loyalty, integrity, and humility at school and in the community.
Letters should be brief but adequately describe the candidate’s qualifications.
Any non-related individual such as school faculty or support staff member, employer, scoutmaster, neighbor, or other community person may submit a nomination.
The recipient shall be named by a selection committee appointed by the high school principal and consisting of the following members:One PTHS counselor, one PTHS teacher, one PTHS support staff member, and two PTHS students-one boy, one girl-both non-candidates for the award.A non-voting Convener appointed by the PTHS Foundation president.No one related to a candidate may serve on the committee.
